The sin of silence

Daily Prompt: A to Z.

Create a short story, piece of memoir, or epic poem that is 26 sentences long, in which the first sentence begins with “A” and each sentence thereafter begins with the next letter of the alphabet.

Another day of silence, it is

Buckled up in a corner, she puts up an act of engagement.

Choosing to be quiet, I am, she would often tell people

Deep down, only she knows, it’s her inability to articulate

Enunciating her thoughts, a skill beyond her means

Fueling her larynx, though consumes the life out of her, always seems futile.

Golden, as they call silence, is in truth far from anything glorious

Hushed voices and scornful glances around her, at least, have passed ignoble judgments

Inscrutable, vain, mysterious, hostile; people like calling her

Just the lack of communication skills have earned her such accolades

Knowledge also is rendered un-empowered without a voice to swank it like Hermoine Granger

Lost in thoughts or engrossed in a book or glued to her phone

Mirage of pretensions to camouflage one of her biggest weaknesses

Not that she hasn’t tried speaking,

Of missed timings, inability to think coherent response, uh and ah at frequent intervals is the story of her voicelessness

People make small talk seem so easy

Queer that something that comes so naturally to others

Rigorous effort hasn’t been able to yield for her

Smiling at times, gets her by

Till of course, speaking becomes inescapable

Unusual it is that her flawless expression in writing

Very remotely even, cannot be verbalized

When you live in a world of freedom of expression

Xerophile’s thorn your silence can seem like

You, the person are born with a set of shortcomings

Zeal of life, however, shall never be relinquished in the face of deficiencies.
