Been your own prophet, swam seven seas yet you remain discontent

Daily Prompt: Can’t Drive 55

Take the third line of the last song you heard, make it your post title, and write for a maximum of 15 minutes. GO!

Does life ever lets you be your own prophet?

Lets you etch your destiny with your two hands

Good or bad, the bearings of your decisions

Only your’s to own up to.

Chasing the stars or rooting to home

A flight that you steer or surrender.

The God you bow down to, only for you to decide

Not the power your parents point to.

An attire that comforts you

Not to be judged or ogled at.

The day when attendance does not equal marks

The teacher’s wisdom does not witness a brutal belittlement

At the hands of an uninterested lot.

The livelihood that facilitates your sustenance

The one that appeases your heart.

Numbers, wires, pillars or academia, what you think fit

Not for others to dictate or for crisp currency to quantify.

Knitting a family and building a career

Not two ends of a road for a woman but a coexistence.

Does life give you as little as a day

To read, write, sing, dance or simply to stretch those arms

A day you mark entirely for the being called you

And when it does, will it not unflinchingly brand you as selfish.

The title comes from the song, Kabira. A beautiful song, which urges an individual to come back home to his loved ones so as to eliminate the void that remains in his heart even when he has led his life solely chasing his dreams. What I wonder is if we are free in the truest sense, to be the creators of our own destinies. And if there is such a time, is it necessary for one to be discontent or does holding the reins of your life makes one a lesser person.

  1. A Blog's Life says:

Liked this!! 🙂 As a fantasist I tend to think of my life as a story, whether with or without magic or dragons or fairies or prophecy, but that I am writing this story as I go. As do everyone with their lives. As an individual, one’s life is most important, thus selfishness can be granted as a virtue . . . me thinks! 😉 Depends on the person, I guess . . .
